ASCE's Legislative Fly-in
Region 4 Governor David D. Dee, Jr., P.E., M.ASCE participated in ASCE's Legislative Fly-in on March 5-6, 2008. The Legislative Fly-in is a great opportunity for all ASCE members to travel to Washington, DC, spend 4 hours in the morning on the first day being briefed on current legislative bills and issues that ASCE has been tracking, and then spend the remaining time in meetings set up by ASCE staffers to meet with both of your Senate representatives and your House representative or their respective staff. This year the fly-in focused on the timely issue of infrastructure funding. ASCE prepares you for these meetings by giving you briefs on each issue, letting you know how your representatives voted on previous legislative bills that ASCE supported, and providing you with updates on the ASCE Report Card and an Action Plan for Congressional bills that will help raise the grades in the future. Funding for attendance through ASCE is available to certain attendees. This is an excellent opportunity to increase your knowledge and involvement with the political process and to establish relationships with your congressional representatives. In 2007, two members attended from WV representing 2 of the 3 Congressional Districts. In 2008, only one member attended from WV. The 2008 Fly-in Agenda and Application are attached for your further information. If you are interested, next year's fly-in will be sometime in March 2009.
